TAKING THE FIGHT TO A HANGOVER 18th December 2020

Another night out. A lot of laughter, drinks and good times. But then the nausea kicks in and we rush to the bathroom. We then think to ourselves ‘I’m never going to drink again’, but really, how realistic is that? The next morning, the hangover kicks in and we want to stay in bed. We’d prefer to have the blinds closed and the noise kept to a minimum. But there is a way to recover faster from these hangovers and we’ll tell you how.

Eggs

Your first meal after a night of drinking should have eggs in it. Why? It’s because eggs can provide protein to provide energy levels and it is rich in cysteine which can be used by your body to produce an antioxidant called glutathione1.

Avocado

When you’re drinking, you urinate quite a bit which means you’re losing nutrients. Avocados can help restore some of the potassium nutrients that you had lost2. Avocados can also bring benefits such as fighting fatigue, putting you in a good mood and increasing your energy levels as they are a source of fibre, healthy fats and micronutrient2. They can also absorb key nutrients from other foods2.

Blueberries

Blueberries contain high levels of nutrients. These nutrients help to fight the inflammation in your body3.

Nuts

Nuts are high in magnesium and when you consume nuts, they can help treat the symptoms of a hangover3. Almonds, cashews and peanuts can help provide you with magnesium4.

BIOLyte

When you have a hangover, it’s due to the diuretic or dehydrating effects from the alcohol5. Alcohol is a diuretic which means that it causes you to urinate more than usual. When this happens, your body is losing both fluids and nutrients. To fight this hangover, we recommend drinking BIOLyte. BIOLyte can help you experience faster rehydration and restore the balance of water/electrolytes in your body. This in turn can relieve the symptoms of dehydration. BIOLyte is available in sachet, effervescent and ready to drink formats. After your night out, we recommend consuming a glass of BIOLyte before you go to bed. This can help make the next day be a bit more tolerable.
